We had the honor of going to Camp No Limits Texas this past weekend. Their mission is to educate, empower, and support individuals with limb differences. We were so lucky to receive a scholarship for our whole family from Hanger Clinic for camp!
We spent the weekend doing obstacle courses, Nerf Wars, playing sports, panning for gold, and spending time with barnyard animals. Each day, we worked with Occupational and Physical Therapists to teach our family life skills to help Callie as she grows and develops.
Callie was also able to try a running blade for the first time.
Seeing our little girl run for the first time and the look of pure pride and joy on her face was PRICELESS. She ran up the path to the sound of cheers and clapping. I cried like a baby and we are going to move heaven and earth to get her one of her own.
The most amazing part was the connection we made with other families.
It’s hard to explain but at times our family can feel isolated and different. At camp, no one was different.
No one batted an eye when we had to take Callie’s leg off for a break.
No one batted an eye when we had to sit out for one of the activities because she was worn out from running.
No one batted an eye when we had to adapt an activity for her.
We were welcomed with open arms and open hearts.
Every morning, we would meet for “Energizers.” They play music and have the kids do a quick stretch and warm up before starting our activities for the day. Seeing the kids, of all abilities, dance to “Shut Up and Dance” would choke me up each time.
No worries, no thoughts of differences, no hindrance to their abilities–just dancing. Magic. Pure magic.
