Life can be hard…..
But it also can be beautiful.
You can have days where wallow in grief. Drowning trying to keep your head above water. Dreading each morning that you have to wake up and face another day.
But you can also have days where you overcome it. You can actively do the work to pull yourself out of the depths of despair. Days where you discover new found strengths you didn’t know you even had. Days where you pick up the pieces and slowly put yourself back together. You find that each day gets a little bit easier to bear.
You can have days where things that come out of left field. Pulling the rug out from underneath you continually until you question why you keep standing up again and again. “Wouldn’t it just be easier to stay down here on the floor?” you wonder for the umpteenth time.
But you can also have days where you hit the goals you’ve been working towards. Where all of your hard work pays off. Days where you swell up with pride because YOU DID THIS. No one else. Whether it’s the goal of running your first mile, hitting a home run, making the perfect banana bread, paying off your last student loan–you did it.
You can have days where your heart breaks. Where you think no one will ever love you that way again. Where you can’t imagine spending another day without that person and the thought of rest of your life without them……impossible to even consider. Days where half of your heart has been viscously ripped from your chest and you’ve never felt more alone.
But you can also have days where you catch a stranger’s eye across the room and feel an instant spark. You can have days with first dates and new beginnings. You can find a love that sets your heart on fire and makes it feel safe all at the same time. Three page hand written love letters in a world of status updates. You can have days with someone that makes it fun to be in love. You can have days where you understand that all along….you where on your way to find this person.
You can have days as a parent where you can not catch a break. Where the baby just won’t stop crying, you are covered in vomit, the laundry is stacked up 18 feet high and you haven’t slept in days. You question if you can handle it–any of it. Days where you look at yourself in the mirror and don’t even recognize the zombie staring back at you.
You can also have days where your little girl says “Mama” for the first time. Days where they tuck their little hand in yours as you go for a walk around the block. Days where you get to see the magic of the world through their eyes. Endless cuddles on the couch. Watching them blow bubbles and run through the sprinklers on the perfect summer afternoon. Days where you know that you were picked to be their mama for a reason.
And that’s what life is all about……
You will have days where the door is slammed in your face.
Days where you get to watch the sunset from the Eifel Tower.
Days where you lose your client or that big promotion.
Days where you sign that deal, hit that #1 spot, or shatter that glass ceiling.
Days where you have a flat tire in the pouring rain–and realized you don’t have a spare tire.
Days where you meet the love of your life at a quaint little coffee shop.
Days where you can’t stop the tears from falling.
Days where you laugh so hard you pee your pants a little.
Days where the kids decided to finger paint your living room walls.
Days you get the keys to your very first house.
You get the amazing gift of both–and it’s up to you to decide what to do with them.
