We spent the last week completely off the grid in Big Bend Texas. It is hands down one of our most favorite places! Gorgeous views, extremely friendly people and one of the few places that you truly are “off the grid.”
The place we stayed at relied 100% on solar power and rain catchment for the water. We got really good at taking extremely fast (and slightly chilly) 5 minute showers and being conscious of our power usage. It was really nice to just slow down–there were several days where we didn’t do much of anything. Easy walks, reading a book on the sunny patio, and playing cards with family were the extent of our day! Watching the sunsets off the deck were incredible. Nothing around for miles but rugged terrain and the horizon lit up with a mosaic of reds, yellows, oranges, and purples. Just gorgeous!
We did spend a few days going off-roading and exploring the near by State and National Parks. Callie did SO well with her endurance and navigating our hikes in the rougher terrain. Her favorite part of the parks was seeing some of the longhorns!
On this trip, I kept being reminded of the quote–“The best view comes after the hardest climb.” It rings so true for our little family after the hardship and challenges we’ve overcome. We truly believe those challenges were placed in our lives so that we could eventually get to the point we’re at today–stronger, more capable, empathetic, and warrior tough. We know that we’ll have many more mountains to climb in the future but we know in our hearts……
We can make it to the top.
